Broken Frontier is a web-magazine[1] which publishes news, interviews, and essays about the American comic book industry. It was founded by Editor-in-Chief Frederik Hautain in 2002.

Since its inception, Broken Frontier has aimed to cover every part of the comic book industry, as evidenced by the site's slogan: “Exploring the Comics Universe.” Broken Frontier places genre comics and publications by independent companies and self-publishers on equal footing with the mainstream publishers and the dominant superhero genre.
Next to focusing on print publications, the site also covers digital comics, comic book adaptations in film and television, and other aspects of popular culture.
Coverage on the aforementioned topics is offered in various formats: headline news, previews, interviews, articles, reviews, columns, and blogging. Comics creators that have written columns for Broken Frontier include Todd McFarlane, G. Willow Wilson, Cullen Bunn, Greg Pak, and Tyler Chin-Tanner.
In 2006, Broken Frontier was purchased by the multimedia entertainment company and comics publisher Platinum Studios[2] as part of an initiative to increase Platinum's Web presence. Broken Frontier was a fully owned subsidiary of Platinum at this time, but was given the autonomy to continue operating as before. However, in July 2007, Platinum terminated its association with Broken Frontier,[3][4] leaving the site independently owned once again.
In 2010, Broken Frontier launched The Frontiersman,[5][6] the world’s first digital comic book magazine for mobile devices. Initially, the magazine was available on iPad only, but now is available on tablets using Android, and in PDF form.
The Frontiersman acts as a companion to the Broken Frontier website. It features in-depth interviews and articles, exclusive previews of upcoming comics, and guest features by a wide group of comics talent. New issues of the magazine are released bi-weekly on Tuesdays.
